Tub-to-Shower Conversions: Is It Worth the Investment? | Nassau County, Yulee & Fernandina Beach Tile Installation

Tub-to-Shower Conversions: Is It Worth the Investment?

Short answer: yes, probably.  Sounds biased coming from the ones installing the tile, but when you break everything down it would really surprise you just how much work goes into building tile showers, and just how much value they add to your home.

When you buy new homes it is almost always the same story - the builder puts in some cheap plastic or fiberglass shower, a couple of doors hung at 10 degree angles, and no ceiling fans.  After a few years pass and you look to sell your Yulee home, it just becomes one in a long monotonous list of builder-spec cookie-cutter homes.  Not only this but now everyday you step into this plastic shower and are reminded of the lack of craftsmanship, creativity and effort put into your house originally.  The flip side to this is that the single most value-adding upgrade you can do for your home in Amelia Island is installing a tile shower for your bathroom.

      The process looks like this:

• Day 1: Demolition and removal of old shower. (Walls, tubs, floors..)

• Day 2: Plumbing the drain by cutting the concrete floor, back-filling with mortar, pouring and forming shower pan.

• Day 3: Plumbing fixtures, installing cement board walls, any remaining mortar form work, applying moisture barrier coatings.

• Day 4: Installing tile on all surfaces.

• Day 5: Grouting and cleaning residue, caulking corners, finishing touches.

• Day 6: Cleanup and ready for use!

Usually our customers can expect to see 1.5-2x the cost of installation added in home value, but this fluctuates with market demand and area.  This process can be sped up for some circumstances but it is very important to allow settling and curing times for things like mortar and grout to prevent moisture ingress, brittleness, and cracking.  Curing and settling times vary with atmospheric moisture levels and as such wildly fluctuate in Nassau with our unpredictable weather so it is best to play it safe.  Our climate in Florida also has very wide temperature swings so we leave gaps between intersecting points to allow for thermal expansion and contraction and prevent cracking.

The showers we install should be expected to last more than 15 years because of the materials we use; polymer additives, moisture barriers, and high quality cement board to give you absolute peace of mind about the quality of our installations.  Tub to shower conversion costs in Nassau county by us typically range from $6,000-$8,000 but vary with options and sizes, for a more exact idea feel free to send us a quote request with images of the area and a description of your design goals.
